When it comes to California Rhone style blends, it’s hard to imagine anything better than this Santa Barbara red. From the Ballard Canyon designation, this blend of 45% Syrah, 21% Cabernet, 14% Petit Verdot, 9% Petit Sirah, 5% Merlot and 6 small amounts of other grape varietals offers up deep dark juicy black fruit profiles including black cherry, blackberry and black currant. Throw in notes of black licorice, bacon fat, black pepper, espresso bean, rich violets, cocoa powder and plenty of spice that are well balanced yet robust. With plenty of racy tannins on the finish, the meatiness of this wine pairs well with any hearty fair, scented cheeses and anyone’s palate that loves the bold and the beautiful.
