2017 Ktima Gerovassiliou Malagousia
Have you ever had one of those food and wine experience that were so memorable, they last with you forever? With the thousands of wines I sample each year, when that one wine comes along and rings church bells on your palate, it needs to be passed along. This Malagousia, a grape thought extinct long ago, was rediscovered by Mr. Gerovassiliou on a small island in Greece in the 1970’s. This rich and silky white starts off with pear, mango, lemon oil, apricot and citrus fruits, and over time through each sip, channels hints of passion fruit, lemon cream, melon and orange zest. Distinct notes of honey and nutmeg give way to a crisp acidity for a long refreshing finish. This is by far, the most unique white wine I have tasted this year. Very limited availability but well worth the effort to find paradise.
